Bring the scent of autumn into your kitchen – naturally.
There’s nothing that says autumn quite like pumpkin spice — but forget the store-bought version! This homemade pumpkin spice syrup recipe is simple, all-natural, and made with real pumpkin and warming spices like cinnamon, cardamom, and ginger. It’s perfect for cozy fall mornings, a touch of sweetness in your baking, or gifting to loved ones. Your kitchen will smell like comfort, and your taste buds will thank you.

There’s something magical about the scent of pumpkin spice simmering on the stove. It’s the aroma of comfort, warmth, and slow afternoons spent baking while the leaves tumble outside. In our kitchen, this homemade pumpkin spice syrup has become a seasonal ritual – one that fills the house with coziness and invites everyone to linger a little longer.
Unlike store-bought versions, this recipe is made entirely from real ingredients — no artificial flavours, no preservatives, just nature’s own warmth in a bottle. It’s simple to make, keeps well in the fridge, and makes a beautiful homemade gift for Thanksgiving or any cozy fall gathering. It becomes especially personal if you've grown the pumpkin yourself.
Ingredients
2 cups pumpkin puree (homemade or canned)
1 cup natural cane sugar or maple sugar (add more if you prefer it sweeter)
1/8 cup whole cloves
10 cardamom pods, crushed
3 cinnamon sticks
1/8 cup fresh roughly chopped ginger
1/4 of a grated nutmeg
6 cups water

Instructions
Combine all ingredients in a large pot. Bring to a gentle simmer.
Let it simmer for 30–45 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture becomes fragrant and the flavours have deepened.
Meanwhile, sterilize your jars or bottles. (You’ll get about 8 cups of pumpkin spice syrup.)
Strain the liquid through a fine-mesh sieve, pressing out all the flavour from the solids.
Return the strained liquid to the pot, bring it briefly to a boil again, then pour it into your prepared jars or bottles.
Let it cool before storing in the fridge. It keeps beautifully for 2–3 weeks — though it rarely lasts that long here!
How to Use Pumpkin Spice
This cozy syrup is so versatile! Try it in:
Coffee or lattes – add 1–2 tablespoons for an instant pumpkin spice latte
Tea – stir into chai or black tea for a comforting autumn blend
Baking – add a splash to cookie doughs, cakes, or oatmeal for extra warmth
Gifts – pour into small bottles, tie with twine, and add a handmade tag for a thoughtful Thanksgiving or hostess gift
We made a batch of pumpkin spice cookies with it today — and they were simply irresistible!

A Cozy Note from us
Making your own pumpkin spice is more than a recipe — it’s a reminder to slow down, breathe in the scents of the season, and enjoy the simple beauty of homemade traditions. As the days grow shorter and the evenings cooler, this is one of those little things that bring warmth to both kitchen and heart.
So put on a cozy sweater, gather your spices, and let your home fill with that wonderful autumn aroma. You’ll know it’s ready when your whole house smells like coziness itself.
Happy Fall!
