WEEK 2: SCENT & LIGHT

Finding comfort through the senses.

This week is about warmth and sensuality — the soft glow of candles, the deep green scent of pine, the comfort of herbs, and the simple joy of creating things with your hands. When we engage the senses, we come home to ourselves.

Let’s explore how to enrich our environment with scents and lights that nurture both body and spirit. Start by selecting a few favorite candles with soothing fragrances like lavender or sandalwood. Their gentle flicker and aroma can transform any space into a serene haven.

Incorporate elements of nature by bringing the fresh, invigorating scent of pine indoors. A simple pine wreath or a few sprigs placed in a vase can fill the room with a forest-like freshness that rejuvenates the spirit.

Herbs such as rosemary, thyme, and mint not only add flavor to your meals but also offer a sensory delight just by running your fingers through them. Consider creating a small indoor herb garden, where you can nurture these plants and enjoy their aromatic benefits.

Lastly, don't underestimate the joy of crafting. Whether it’s knitting a cozy scarf or arranging a floral bouquet, using your hands to create something beautiful can be incredibly grounding. These small acts of creativity and care help us reconnect with ourselves and turn our living spaces into personal sanctuaries.

By mindfully selecting scents and lights, we open a pathway to comfort and peace, making our surroundings a true reflection of warmth and sensuality.

A Living Land Acknowledgment

We acknowledge the living landscape that sustains us. Long before gardens, towns, or roads, this land was shaped by glaciers, forests, rivers, and the countless plants and animals that continue to call it home. The soils beneath our feet, the trees that stand above us, and the waters that move through this region are part of a living system that has endured for thousands of years. Our work is guided by respect for these natural systems and a commitment to care for the land so that future generations, human and wild, may continue to thrive here.
